It all begins with an idea.
When the Abraham Joshua Heschel School was founded in 1983, a new model of Jewish day school was created. Named after one of the great Jewish leaders, teachers, and activists of the twentieth century, The Heschel School opened with a commitment to creating a pluralistic Jewish community dedicated to the values that characterized Rabbi Heschel’s life: intellectual exploration, respect, integrity, love of the Jewish people and tradition, and a commitment to social justice.
The Abraham Joshua Heschel School fosters critical thinking and a love of learning in an environment of intellectual challenge and academic excellence. By weaving together Jewish and general studies we nurture each student’s intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual growth.
The school’s approach to education is governed by profound respect for students. It nurtures their curiosity, cultivates their imagination, encourages creative expression, values their initiative, and engenders critical thinking skills. The school is committed to the development of the whole child and supports each student’s intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual growth
The Heschel School is a mission-driven, pluralistic community that brings together families from a wide range of Jewish backgrounds, practices, and beliefs. Heschel students develop ideas and values that shape and inspire their lives. Our approach to education nurtures their curiosity, cultivates their imagination, encourages creative expression, values their initiative, and instills critical thinking skills. Heschel supports each student’s intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual growth.
