Heschel Marks Martin Luther King Jr. Day Across the School
Each division celebrated the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and were fortunate to have Heschel Founder Peter Geffen take part in so many different ways. Early Childhood children heard from Peter about his personal experiences of learning and working with Dr. King. The children’s voices rang out in songs about peace, kindness and the light in all people. Heschel’s Lower School gathered for an assembly and also heard from Peter as he introduced Dr. King’s “I have a dream” speech. Additionally, students in Grade 5 shared moving words of child Civil Rights activists. Middle School students learned about Dr. King in two different assemblies and heard about Peter’s experiences as a Civil Rights activist in the summers of 1965 and 1966. Heschel High School was privileged to welcome Mrs. Juliette Holmes, a storyteller who was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. She shared stories from her childhood in Savannah in the 1950s.
