Heschel’s Beit Knesset (Chapel), located at 30 West End Avenue, serves as a sacred space for our school. The space is built to come alive each day with prayer, communal gatherings, joyful music, and learning. The Aron Kodesh (Holy Ark) containing the Torah scrolls is at the heart of our Beit Knesset.

The logo uses shapes, angles and intersecting lines drawn directly from the design on the walls of the Beit Knesset, which themselves are inspired by a map of the Land of Israel drawn by Rashi in the 11th century and displayed at the entrance to the space. The four blue shapes and hues represent the four divisions of the school (Early Childhood, Lower School, Middle School, and High School), which together make up the Heschel School. The white lines / negative space in the logo symbolize the multiple and intersecting paths a student’s journey can take.

The Ner Tamid (Eternal Light) in the Beit Knesset is a constant in Jewish prayer spaces around the world and is a unique aspect of our Beit Knesset’s artful design. The logo’s illuminated triangle reflects the Ner Tamid, a symbol of the holiness and permanence of our Torah

The Heschel community is composed of families from a wide range of Jewish backgrounds, beliefs, and practices united by our shared commitment to Jewish pluralism. The shapes and hues in the logo are different, and also cohesive. Together, they are unique and beautiful. At Heschel, each student and family is valued and essential, and together build our magnificent community.
