Art and Music

Heschel Middle School students participate in a weekly visual arts class where they learn skills in drawing, painting, sculpting, ceramics, printing, and collage, while applying their creativity through artistic expression. The eighth grade program incorporates an art history unit into the weekly program. An artwork elective meets the needs of students interested in spending more time on their artwork. In addition, the art room is open during lunch/recess periods.

The music program focuses on band instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, and percussion). By 8th grade, students are able to play and perform instrumental music in an ensemble group. An alternate choral music track is offered to students, beginning in the seventh grade. The after-school Heschel Community Orchestra offers a place for students who are already proficient in their instrument to play alongside other students, parents, and faculty members.
