Tanakh

The study of Tanakh explores how we became a Jewish nation; what the relationships and expectations are between God, the Jewish people and its leaders; and how we prepared to enter and live in the land of Israel. Students learn the requisite skills for reading, understanding, and interpreting the original language of Tanakh by approaching the text from four different perspectives: (1) understanding the plot and words we learn; (2) reading the text closely and considering it analytically, with students interpreting it themselves, sometimes creatively, and learning midrash and parshanut; (3) finding personal meaning in the text; and (4) considering its meaning to the Jewish people over time, and appreciating its moral implications, cultural context, and relevance to today. The Tanakh program includes: Shemot (Exodus), BeMidbar (Numbers), Devarim (Deuteronomy), Yehoshua (Joshua), Shoftim (Judges), and Yonah (Jonah)
