Tefillah
Every school day begins with Tefillah (prayer); it is a time we meet together in order to contemplate and express how we see ourselves; our relationship with the Jewish people; and our relationship to God. We build community during Tefillah in several different ways. Twice a week (on Torah-reading days, Monday and Thursday) each grade comes together as a full class for Tefillot. A student’s in-school Bar or Bat Mitzvah celebration is often part of a grade-wide minyan. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays students meet in smaller groups for a short Tefillah. Students learn to participate more actively and lead Tefillah as they enter Jewish adulthood, and study certain prayers in depth to enable a better understanding of, and deeper connection with, Tefillah.
